Sad ending to Christmas.

For most of those who celebrate Christmas, it may be an exciting period but one young lady who I met last night had a tough time. She told me that she got into debt after spending £5,000 to please her boyfriend. Nevertheless, he left her for another women who he met at a Christmas party. It is a double-blow for the young woman because firstly, she spent the money over the Christmas, secondly he met the woman at a Christmas party. Therefore, she says that she hates hearing the word 'Christmas'.

Christmas left-overs are everywhere.

Since the Boxing Day, I have observed around London and rubbish is everywhere. This is because people are throwing away the packaging of Christmas presents and left-overs of food and drink. From what I have seen on the streets of the city, majority of people who celebrate Christmas do not dispose their waste in an environmentally friendly way. As a consequence, Christmas celebration contributes to climate change.

Boxing Day bonanza

Boxing Day was supposed to be a day of appreciation, a day of thanking family members, friends and relatives for their Christmas presents. Nonetheless, in recent years, it has become the day that big businesses look forward. The so-called 'sales' start and millions of misled consumers queue up outside shops before dawn. In contrast to big businesses, cabies dislike it because the Congestion Charge is suspended, people who normally take taxi would drive to Central London. On top of that, many town centres in London get congested which also taxi drivers loathe.

The best day to be a taxi driver.

December 25th is every cab drivers' favourite day because they can make very good money. Of course, trains, buses and other public transports do not work that day and mini cab offices take advantage of this. Customers, who take taxi, have to pay double of the usual fare and most of them have no choice but to take a cab. In addition, it is raining today so even those who want to walk cannot face the weather. Personally, I am having a good day so far. On the one hand, I feel sorry for my passengers but on the other hand, it is only one out of 365 days a year.

A successful day.

In the early hours of this morning, I picked up a couple, from Southfield, who decorated their house with expensive Christmas lighting. Halfway through the journey, I praised the way their house looked then discussed, the rest of the journey journey, on the effect Christmas decorations have on climate change. I successfully persuaded them to think about the issue. Therefore, they promised to research the topic to play their role in saving our planet.

I have been asking my passengers whether Christmas celebration is needed in today's Britain. Nine out of twelve said that their Christmas celebration is not based on religion. Some did not mind all the fuss about Christmas, especially the holiday part. But one young man strongly insisted that Christmas is unnecessary. I think he has a point but I, am afraid, he is in the minority at the moment
